Production of Melba Toast
So where does Melba toast come from? Our baking masters start by carefully baking bread in our bakery. These loaves of bread are cut into small slices, just the right size to cover them with a slice of cheese and a sprinkling of cress. After this, they are baked until they are crispy and golden yellow in colour. Therefore, you won’t find anything better, we promise.
Dame Nellie Melba
Nellie Melba (May 19, 1861 – February 23, 1931) was an Australian soprano. In 1886 Nellie and her family left Australia to become known as an opera singer in Europe. It worked! She became a musician of world renown. Her name is still associated with two dishes, the dessert pêche Melba and our delicious Melba toast. Both are conceived by the French chef cook Auguste Escoffier. When he saw Nellie perform he fell in love with her.
